(Note: This posting was originally written in February, but the nomination deadline has been extended to March 15th.)

Who could ask for a better partner?

The National Center for Safe Routes to School is  honest, knowledgeable and deep…and its website is totally ripped!  With them, you have a partner to lean on for everything from accurate statistics to International Walk to School Day registration.  Its steadfast presence has inspired and sustained grassroots activism in thousands of communities across the country, positively affecting the quality of life for countless children and families.  What a catch!

Trouble in the family

Okay, so the in-laws are a bit interesting.  Who would have thought that Federal Transportation and Highway Safety would have joined to create such a sensitive soul?  And now the relatives are bickering.  Safe Routes to School is on the chopping block as Congress grapples with a miserable, regressive transportation bill.  A slew of nominations recognizing the National Center for Safe Routes to School for the Innovations in American Government Award just may remind them the grass isn’t always greener and they have a committed partner.

A fitting distinction

The Innovations in American Government Award is the creation of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation. It recognizes excellence in the public sector, honoring “exemplary models of government innovation [that] address the nation’s most pressing public concerns.”  If you agree that this description suits the National Center for Safe Routes to School to a tee, nominate them for the award today!

The family intervention

Don’t let the National Center for Safe Routes to School be “the one that got away!”  Please forward this message to your Safe Routes to School friends and colleagues nation-wide.  With thousands of heartfelt nominations, we can send a collective Hallmark message to the National Center for Safe Routes to School in time for Senate and House votes on transportation bills likely to take place around Valentine’s Day.
