First Hill Streetcar – Weekly Project Update

Feet First supports promotes and facilitates the incorporation of “walkability” into the built environment. During and after construction of capital projects it is crucial to support the usability of a system for people going by foot.

Feet First supports the design of the streetcar to accommodate a wide range of individual preferences, abilities and users; allowing accessibility to everyone.

April 23rd April 29th: Construction Preparation and Median Removal

Expect loss of parking and a mid-block crosswalk closure on Broadway between Howell St and Pine St

Weekday Work: April 26th April 27th  

Broadway Howell St to Pine St

  • Initial delivery of equipment, materials and traffic control devices
  • Remove irrigation system from median
  • Saw cut roadway in preparation for median removal and utility relocation.

Weekend Work: April 28th April 29th

Broadway Howell St to Pine St

  • Remove trees from traffic median
  • Demolish and remove median
  • Rebuild manholes in future trackway

Work Hours: Work will take place Wednesday through Sunday. Work hours are 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. weekdays, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Saturdays and 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Sundays. Loud impact work under a noise variance, including concrete breaking, may begin at 8 a.m. on Saturdays.

What to Expect During This Week’s Construction:

  • On-street parking and loading restrictions April 26th through April 29th between Howell St and Pine St
  • One travel lane in each direction
  • Intermittent closures of the mid-block crosswalk between Howell and Pine St during work hours
  • Construction noise, dust and increased truck activity
  • Bus stops and transit routes will not be affected
