Join us for a celebration of the "New Little Bridge" in South Park
Join Seattle Deputy Mayor Daryl Smith, Principal Dr. Norma Zavala, and local artist Amaranta Ibarra-Sandys for opening ceremony of the “Little Bridge” at South Henderson in South Park on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 5:00pm-5:30pm.
Feet First worked together with Sea Mar Community Health Center, Concord International Elementary School and the community to transform the “Little Bridge” from an eyesore: dull, rusty and overgrown into a beautiful artist’s path rich with cultural imagery. The fence was replaced and several days were spent cleaning and painting by community members.
WHAT: Opening Ceremony of South Park’s “Little Bridge”
WHEN: Friday, September 10, 2010 from 5:00pm to 5:30pm
WHERE: West end of the South Henderson Bridge, South Park
South Park’s “Little Bridge” is a pedestrian walkway that spans SR99 at South Henderson Street. Rather than freight and cars, this bridge carries school children, families, neighbors and friends from one side of South Park to the other.
This project is possible through grants from:
- Seattle Foundation’s Neighbor-to-Neighbor Fund
- Seattle Department of Transportation
- National Center for Safe Routes to School
Generous donations have come from South Park businesses including:
Ferguson Construction
Commercial Fence Corp.
Arkadia Woodworking
Boyer Logistics
This project is part of the larger Safe Routes to School program managed by Feet First and funded through the Washington State Department of Transportation.
