Climb into a family adventure by taking a free Seattle stairway walking tour to "Alki Overlook."

Another great walk is being organized by Jake and Cathy Jaramillo, famous for their Seattle Stairway Walks.  This time, your walk will take place in West Seattle near Alki and Schmitz Park.

When:  Sunday, August 28th | 10AM - 12PM

Where:  Meet at SW Spokane St. and 49th Ave. SW (on Spokane, in front of Schmitz Park Elementary)

Distance:  2.9 miles round trip

Details:

This moderate-length walk is a panoramic survey of Alki and Schmitz Park, featuring prime stairs and great views.

We'll wind our way down narrow, leafy lanes before reaching our first stairs above Alki Beach. From here we'll enjoy views of Alki, the Sound and the Olympics before heading down to the waterfront.

Then we'll stroll alongside the beach, taking in all the late-summer action before heading back up and away from Alki. A set of very out-of-the-way stairs will lead us up to an intimate pocket of charming homes just before we reach Admiral Way.

On the other side of Admiral we'll look down from a 1920s-vintage bridge into Schmitz Park before switchbacking down a last set of timber stairs into the park itself, with its creek, tall trees and winding trails.

Who:

Jake and Cathy Jaramillo are currently working on a book of Seattle stairway walks, for publication by The Mountaineers Books in late Summer 2012. They love the many unexpected ways that Seattle's city-within-the-city reveals itself along its stairs. Their Seattle Stairway Walks blog is at http://seattlestairways.blogspot.com/
