volunteers Needed for observation of drop-off procedures near John Muir Elementary School.
On Thursday, December 9th, from 8:15 am to 9:30 am Feet First will conduct a tally of the number of parents dropping off their children. This effort will help measure the impact that Safe Routes to School programming has had on pedestrian safety at student drop-off and pick-up times.
School drop-off/pick-up areas are notoriously dangerous places for children to walk. 50 percent of the time that students are hit within school zones, the person behind the wheel is a parent from the same school. For the past year and a half, Feet First has been working with John Muir Elementary School to increase the numbers of walkers, reduce the number of drivers, and improve the pedestrian safety in this school zone.
Thursday's activity will be the 2nd measurement of this area. The first took place 12 months ago before infrastructure improvements, encouragement campaigns, and enforcement efforts took place. We need 6 to 8 people to do a thorough observation, and appreciate your willingness to volunteer.
To learn more about the event or to volunteer, contact Jen Cole at 652-2310 or jen@feetfirst.info.
