Volunteer with Feet First

Feet First is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to assist our staff. Here are some different ways YOU can help!

Feet First's volunteer program engages the community as allies in the shared goal of ensuring that all communities in Washington state are walkable.
Volunteers are valued partners in our organization who donate not only time, skills, and knowledge, but enthusiasm and vitality for the cause.
Feet First originated through the efforts of devoted volunteers, and volunteers have continued to this day to be indispensable in every accomplishment we have made. Join our people-powered movement!

Upcoming Events

Redmond Walk & Talk

When: Thursday, May 24, 5 - 8 pm

Where: 8102 161st Ave NE, Redmond

What: Interested in helping us prepare and set up a Walk & Talk event? Our next upcoming Walk & Talk in Redmond on May 24th is mostly ready to go, but we really need someone to help us prepare for the day in the coming weeks. This would involve helping setting up, taking photographs and/or video of the walk, assisting the walk leader, and helping clean up after.

More Information: Feet First quarterly Walk & Talk events are designed to showcase area redevelopment that incorporates features to promote walking and to make people more aware of the importance of walkable communities. Every person has the power to affect change; neighborhood Walk & Talk events are opportunities to connect community members with city leaders while introducing helpful resources and tools for creating change in their own neighborhoods.

Photographer Needed for Walk to School Event

When: Wednesday, May 30th, 8 am - 9:30am

Where: Dearborn Park Elementary School

What: Feet First will be holding a walk to school event which the media has been invited to. We are looking for a volunteer with basic photography skills to photograph the Walking School Bus and subsequent press event outside Dearborn Park Elementary.

What is a Walking School Bus? A Walking School Bus is a group of children walking to school with one or more adults. It can be as informal as two families taking turns walking their children to school to as structured as a route with meeting points, a timetable, and a regularly rotated schedule of trained volunteers.

Beacon Rocks! Music and Performance Festival

When: Sunday, June 24, 1 - 5 pm

Where: Seattle's first Festival Street, the Roberto Maestas Festival Street. This is the block of South Lander Street adjacent to the Beacon Hill Light Rail station.

What: ROCKiT Community Arts, a non-profit organization committed to bringing arts and culture to the Beacon Hill Neighborhood in Seattle, is putting on an outdoor summer music and performance series called "Beacon Rocks!".

We will be at this event to hand out maps and other Feet First literature, host a craft activity, and talk about all the great work we do---the chicken will also be at this event, so if you have always dreamed of being the famed Feet First mascot (or tabling just isn’t your thing), be prepared to suit up in some yellow feathers!

Walkabouts!

Our Mapping Specialist Gia is going to conduct a series of walkabouts and pedestrian safety education events this month. She could really use some of our amazing volunteers to help with preparing and setting up the events, facilitating the discussion about walkable communities, taking notes, photographing, and packing up. A ride to and from the event will be provided from the Feet First office.
